One of our favorite Charlotte Weddings EVER.

Of the 49 weddings we have had the honor of photographing (at the time of this post), we have obviously had quite a few Charlotte weddings. They are always so much fun, and it’s so lovely when they are close. Literally, one of our venues is only a mile away from us (you can check out that Charlotte wedding here). BUT, if you had told us that we would be having a wedding in our yard one day, we wouldn’t have believed you!

To this day, it still feels like a dream. Luckily, we have the photos to prove it was real, haha. In all seriousness, though, Charlotte has an incredible landscape that made it possible to host a ceremony in our yard. From the native plants to the beautiful spring weather we get to experience, it’s no surprise that Charlotte weddings are some of our favorites already, regardless of proximity. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful city and state!

Jimi and Jess’ wedding planning experience started long before we became their photographers. They had been planning for quite some time and had chosen an amazing little resort in New Mexico for their “I dos.” They had everything planned and ready to go, but then, less than two months before their wedding date, COVID-19 started to run rampant. When their plans were turned upside down, they decided it would be safer to keep their celebration close to home in North Carolina. Now, less than a month from their wedding date, we were able to connect and help ensure that their wedding day would still be documented beautifully.

Since we first connected with Jess to just a week before their wedding, plans were constantly changing based on the Coronavirus outbreak level. The first plan after New Mexico was a cute little Airbnb in Asheville, but when restrictions got even tighter, they decided it was time for Plan C. We were nine days out from their wedding, when Jess called to tell us that the Airbnb wasn’t going to work anymore. The state practically deemed photography non-essential, and even if we wanted to, there were no outdoor public spaces open. That’s when we realized we had to do it in our yard.

Within twenty-four hours of deciding to host them in our yard, we were learning how to build a wedding arch, and four days later, Jimi and Jess were over to pick the spot for their ceremony and get a sneak peek of the wedding arbor we had created. IKEA came in clutch for last-minute decorations, and in just a week, they’d be back for their wedding day!! It seriously turned out to be such a gorgeous spring wedding in Charlotte for what was supposed to be a desert-inspired getaway in New Mexico. After their beautiful ceremony, we headed to their house for a family-style reception, which was just the perfect celebration.

One little detail we failed to mention so far is that Jess made her wedding dress! Not just once, but three times! She had an original design for New Mexico, but when it turned out they would be having a Charlotte wedding, she decided to redesign it to match the landscape. Yes, y’all, she made the final design in less than a month!
