Welcome to our blog! As Charlotte, Asheville, and destination wedding photographers, we do our best to provide as much information and value to you as we can. Our blog is still a little young but we can't wait to share all of our knowledge with you!
There are so many great wedding venues in and around Charlotte, seriously, so many! But suppose you’re looking for a place that lets you have a gorgeous outdoor ceremony and beautiful outdoor portraits. In that case, Alexander Homestead is one of the best Charlotte wedding venues in town.
From the gorgeous gardens to the historic home and impressive reception hall, it is the perfect venue for an intimate wedding feel, no matter the size of your guest list. It is such a hidden gem that if you’re from the Charlotte area, you’ve probably driven past it without even knowing it was there — hello, secret garden vibes!
The Location
Located in the heart of East Charlotte and just 15 minutes from Uptown Charlotte, Alexander Homestead is right outside of the hugely popular neighborhoods of Plaza Midwood and Noda. Built in 1903, the Historic Alexander Homestead sat vacant from 1978-2008. In 2008, it was renovated for two years and quickly became one of the top-rated Bed & Breakfast’s in Charlotte, with rooms being booked months in advance. In 2011, the new owners opened the Dairy Barn for business, and by 2013, the property was hosting over 100 weddings a year.
Our next little factoid isn’t really related to the venue itself. I was born and raised ONE mile from this venue. I literally drove past it every day on the way to elementary school! And we just so happened to be living in that same house when we shot our first wedding at Alexander Homestead. We joked a couple of times that we never thought we could walk to a wedding, but it felt like our photography career finally came full circle, in all honesty.
Venue Capacity and Accommodations
The gorgeous gardens is one of the most attractive features of Alexander Homestead. The garden is the perfect spot for an intimate wedding ceremony, regardless of how large or small your guest count is. It also doubles as your cocktail party area after your ceremony and can host up to 215 guests.
The Dairy Barn is the venue’s reception hall. It features tall vaulted ceilings, a rustic, elegant style, a built-in bar, plus a very sought-after rain-plan, the attached atrium. This attached atrium is a permanent, temperature-controlled space. The Barn can comfortably hold up to 215 guests for a seated dinner.
One of the other unique features of Alexander Homestead is the gorgeous bridal suite. It has the most delicious natural light you could ever want! It’s spacious enough for all of your most important people to be with you without sacrificing the breathing room. Not to mention that it is perfectly situated for first looks, first touches, and to hide out before walking down the aisle.
Why we love Alexander Homestead Wedding Venue
If you ask us to pick our #1 favorite thing about this venue, I don’t think we could narrow it down to just one because this venue has it all. You’ll love the fantastic gardens and the incredible architecture of the historic home. And there is literally no wrong spot for your wedding photos.
We also love that they allow you to fully customize your package. Alexander Homestead only requires one vendor, their in-house catering. You can also pick from many add-on services, like Garden Bar Service, Florals, a Photobooth, Ceremony & Reception decor, and more, making it that much easier to have your perfect wedding day.
Cost of Having Your Wedding at Alexander Homestead

Alexander Homestead is hands down one of the top 5 wedding venues in Charlotte, in our opinion, at least, haha. And we have a feeling that even if you were to ask us for a recommendation for a Charlotte wedding venue years from now, it would still be on our list. Check out their website for more information.
