Welcome to our blog! As Charlotte, Asheville, and destination wedding photographers, we do our best to provide as much information and value to you as we can. Our blog is still a little young but we can't wait to share all of our knowledge with you!
Okay, okay, okay. You got us, there is literally nothing better than an engagement session in the mountains. Seriously, give us mountain air, some back roads, and a hike, and we are all in! Aside from actually taking photos, one of our favorite things to do as photographers is to plan a fantastic adventure for our couples during their engagement session. And when they give us complete freedom for locations for their Asheville engagement photos, it’s just plain magical!
If you’re thinking about Asheville engagement photos, it is absolutely key to put some thought into your outfits. Because it’s the mountains, you have a couple options for how to dress — laid back or dressy. It totally depends on your style and what you want, but we always encourage you to dress comfortably dressy (yes, we’re going to trademark that phrase, haha). You’ll also want to plan out your footwear and remember to bring some sneakers if you plan on wearing some not so hike-friendly shoes for the photos. Last but not least, you want to make sure that your outfits go together. You certainly don’t want to be too matchy-matchy, but you should definitely pick colors that complement each other and the environment! And please, no matter what, leave the t-shirts at home.
For Sam and Tim, we had to make it special because hello, we share a name! Just kidding, it’s always special, but we definitely had some fun with these two. When they hired us for their mountain wedding, we were so excited to plan something unique for their Asheville engagement photos! So we picked out two excellent locations, Moores Cove and Black Balsam Knob. And I mean, if you’re having a mountain wedding, you gotta do a mountain engagement session too, right!?!
When it was time to head to Asheville for Sam and Tim’s engagement photos, we decided to meet up with them at one of our favorite local restaurants, Green Sage Cafe, for lunch and a drink. It was so much fun getting to bond before their session, and they even brought along their dog Barley, who is literally the sweetest boy ever. Could you guess by his name that they’re planning a brewery wedding??
The day was so beautiful, and honestly, the weather was perfect as could be. We strolled around Moores Cove before heading to Black Balsam Knob for sunset. We were met with some crazy wind up on the mountain, and while it was freezing, it was totally worth it!

While we absolutely love digital cameras, sometimes we also bring along our film camera for some amazing black and white shots! I love to use expired film because not only can you not replicate the look in digital form, its also unpredictable, so you really never know what you have until it’s developed. Here are a few of our favorite film scans from their session.
